The Atomic Testing Museum WTC I-Beam Dedication

January 18, 2010

The Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas preserves and presents information and exhibits that describe the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Development and Testing Programs at the Nevada Test Site (NTS) from 1950 until 1992, and the resultant effect on U.S. Policy and Nevada economy over those years. Since its dedication and opening in 2005, the Museum has had 300,000 visitors. Of those, more than 50,000 have been students from schools in Southern Nevada ranging from 5th Grade to University level.

The Atomic Testing Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. Currently, the final exhibit is a large piece of the Berlin Wall, exemplifying the role the NTS played in winning the Cold War with the Soviet Union. For many months, an adjacent exhibit was an I-beam from the World Trade Center, which portrayed the fact that although the Cold War had ended, the U.S. is engaged in another kind of War, and that the NTS was the bridge from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism. The I-beam was on loan from the Smithsonian through their Affiliate program and was returned to them last year. The Museum has just been given two artifacts in the form of an I-beam and a fragment of sheet metal from the World Trade Center. These items were obtained from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. One of those items will go back into the permanent display, next to the piece of the Berlin Wall. The other, much larger I-beam will go on permanent display in the Museum in a manner that allows visitors to both touch and photograph the exhibit.

On Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at 1pm, a large I-beam section of the World Trade Center will be dedicated by Oscar Goodman, Mayor of Las Vegas, at the Atomic Testing Museum, joined by our Congressional delegates, Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki, representatives of the Clark County Fire Department and NTS Fire Chief Charles Fauerbach, Colonel Howard D. Belote, Commander of Nellis AFB, and representatives from the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Nevada Test Site. Mr. Lee Ielpi and Mr. Fred Sager of the World Trade Center Tribute Foundation will give a multi-media presentation on the events of September 11, 2001. The lecture portion of the event will be open to the public and donations will be taken at the door. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held to celebrate the addition of the I-beams to the Museum collection and to recognize the continuing role and the many ways in which Nevada plays an important role in the War on Terrorism

January 8, 2010

A great big thank you to all of you that are using our website! Your input is what makes the site a success. will be hosting the 2nd Annual “Hand in Hand Branson Honors Purple Heart Recipients.” We did the event last year and it was so successful we are doing it again. The dates are April 22-24, 2010, Branson, MO.

For the next few weeks I will try and give you some insight as to how the event will progress. This year I am doing a town hall meeting at the Opening Ceremony regarding “how to get Your Benefits.” This is open to Purple Heart Recipients, Disabled Veterans and their families. As widows or widowers, there will be people to address your issues as well. It is so important that you know your rights. There will be a question and answer time. When you enter the theatre, you will be given a card. You will write your question on the card and hand it to the hostess/host. The question will be addressed to the panel and they will answer it for you. If you need private time, that will be available also. We are really looking forward to an informative meeting.

*Twas the month before Christmas*
*When all through our land,*
*Not a Christian was praying*
*Nor taking a stand.*
*See the PC Police had taken away,*
*The reason for Christmas – no one could say.*
*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*
*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*
*It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say*
* December 25th is just a ‘Holiday’.*
*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*
*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*
*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*
*Something was changing, something quite odd! *
*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*
*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*
*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*
* At Lowe’s the word Christmas – was no where to be found.*
*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears*
*You won’t hear the word Christmas; it won’t touch your ears.*
*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*
*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*
*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!*
*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*
*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter..*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*
* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*
*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’*
*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday!*

Please, all Christians join together and wish everyone you meet MERRY CHRISTMAS
Christ is The Reason for the Christ-mas Season!

Featherlady Studio

December 18, 2009

Wanted to share these amazing creations by artist Julie Thompson. Visit her website: Featherlady Studio.

I began painting feathers back in 1990, purely as a means of putting to use all the broad sturdy wing feathers that my mother’s peacocks would shed. I had never seen this done before, but knowing the bonding properties of acrylic paint, I thought it was a feasable experiment. I began with simple subject matters like pictographs and still-lifes, but soon that grew to a very broad range of subject matter.

Veteran Supporters

December 17, 2009

What a great group of Veteran supporters we have here in Branson, Mo.

Again, is sponsoring “the Hand in Hand Branson Honors Purple Heart Recipients” Event. The dates are April 22-24th 2010. Here’s what makes me so proud to be a part of this community. The Factory Merchants Mall doesn’t hesitate to give the room for registration, FREE… The Hamner Barber Theatre calls and then stops by, their mission, to let me know they want the Purple Heart Opening Ceremony at their theatre again this year and also the Entertainment Show. They literally are closing their shows, thus loosing revenue for their theatre for those two times during that week. Then to top that off they are inviting Purple Heart Recipients to their show and a ticket price of only $15 on Thursday evening. When a theatre in Branson volunteers their theatre folks, that is huge. They pay for concession employees, lights, sound, cleaning, and in this case loss of their income for those two time slots. The Taney County Sheriff is a motorcycle rider…..he says I want to do this event for you and so it’s already in place. The Branson landing is so excited that Tammy already called me and we have her part of the event in place also.

Please check Did you Know? for information regarding the live radio show with the veterans in Afghanistan on Friday the 18th of December. A great moment to be shared
